The Department of Protestant Theology of the Theological Faculty of the University of Berne is seeking to fill a vacancy for a Extraordinary Professor (full-time) of the History of the Ancient Church and Dogma and the History of Interreligious Encounter by February 1st, 2014. The position is endowed with all rights and duties of full tenure. The holder of the position should be able to represent the field of the History of the Ancient Church and Dogma in all its breadth and ecumenical dimension, with special consideration of the developments of the history of religions from the Early Church up to the Late Middle Ages, in terms of research and of teaching Bachelor, Master and Doctoral students of both Protestant and Old Catholic Theology as well as those of Religious Studies/Theology of Religions. The holder of the position will demonstrate: – Research specialisations and projects in the field of the History of the Ancient Church and Dogma, – Additional research specialisations in the fields of Ecumenical Church History and the History of Religions in Late Antiquity or in the Middle Ages (e.g. History of Eastern Churches, History of the Encounters between Christianity and Judaism/Islam), – Broadness of approach both in methodology and content in all fields of teaching, – Proven university-level teaching skills, – Willingness to work in a team and on an interdisciplinary level, – Experience in organising research projects and in acquiring external funding. Prerequisite for the appointment is the habilitation or an equivalent qualification (postdoctoral lecturing qualification, second book).
